Thank you for taking the White person's Unity Pledges!

Taking these 5 pledges will prove that you are ready to:

  • Acknowledge the difficult past
  • Reassess the information that’s been passed down to you
  • Imagine a new fully unified America

It only takes about one minute to complete all five pledges below (unless you explore the logic & songs/videos)

If you’re not sure about a pledge or you want to learn about its background, click the “logic, learning & songs” links

Please watch the entertaining songs/videos that will help you better understand the history!

Unification between blacks and whites is a longstanding and complex issue.  These simple pledges can’t address or fix everything, but they’re a place to start building a new, prosperous America together

You’re encouraged to view the Black Person’s pledges as well.  It’s understood that most people’s heritage isn’t “black and white”.  We don’t mean to exclude anyone.  Please take the pledges that most closely fit your background

It’s not the intention of these pledges or this movement to imply that any individual is currently or ever was a “racist”.  The goal here is to educate and to encourage everyone to look within themselves to see if they still harbor any resistance to reconcilliation or unification.

White Person's Pledge #1: Recognize the Unbalanced Start

I pledge to thoroughly understand the extensive obstacles that Black people have faced in the U.S. (from slavery to recent times), and recognize that their quality of life across the board would be the same as that of whites if they had come here voluntarily and had always lived as free, unobstructed people.

White Person's Pledge #2: Challenge What I Was Taught

I pledge to acknowledge that any information passed down to me by family, friends, or society that black people are inherently less intelligent, less motivated, or less moral than whites is not true.

White Person's Pledge #3: Treat others as You Would Want to be Treated

I pledge to denounce or at least ignore anyone who tells a black joke or makes a racial slur, which is a continuation of the mean-spirited, blackface minstrel shows that have carried 200 years of cruelty. I also agree that Confederate flags and statues of Jefferson Davis, General Lee, and others are painful reminders of slavery and should be kept in museums rather than on prideful display.

If the answer is NO to any of the following questions, please don't move on without clicking the INFO button above.

Do you know what Minstrel Shows are?

Do you know specifically why blackface is offensive to black people?

Do you know that Jim Crow was not a real person?

White Person's Pledge #4: We will Achieve Prosperity Together

I pledge to unite with the black population socially and in business, and to understand that this unification does not mean that I am disrespecting my heritage.

White Person's Pledge #5: I'm Truly Sorry for the bad things that happened in the Past and I'm Ready for the Division to End

I pledge to treat Black people no differently than I would someone whose ancestors came from Europe, and to advocate for Black success and unity wherever I can, because I know that when we all prosper together, the U.S. becomes a better place for everyone.
